Life in the Colony
The men and women in Maryland had very different roles. The women would stay home and sew clothing, do housework, take care of children, and make food. The men were the ones that went out and worked on fields or crops and built ships. Mostly the men were the ones who worked on the tobacco crops, although occasionally, women would go out and help. The weather in Maryland was usually warm, which was perfect for growing their crops. Unfortunately sometimes it was too warm, so illness and disease spread faster. Since there was so much disease and sickness going around, there was a high death rate.
